There’s something utterly enchanting about spending Christmas in the Cotswolds. One of my most memorable Christmas experiences in the Cotswolds of 2024 was an evening at the historic Badminton Estate, the ancestral seat of the Duke of Beaufort. The highlight of the evening was a cooking demonstration led by none other than Nancy Lawson, the owner of Overton Manor and a celebrated chef known for her dedication to seasonal and local ingredients. Watching Nancy at work is mesmerising—she weaves everyday stories of family life into her culinary expertise, and shares anecdotes about cooking seasonally and simply for yummy Christmas feasting and tips for perfecting traditional recipes.

As she prepares sumptuous dish after sumptuous dish, you sip a glass of Mulled wine marvelling at how the centuries-old kitchen is alive with warmth and laughter once more. It’s a moment that captures the essence of Cotswold Christmas: tradition, hospitality, and the joy of sharing good food.

A Visit to the Cotswold Reindeer Herd

No Christmas is complete without a touch of magic, and the Cotswold Reindeer Herd delivers it in spades. Nestled on a picturesque farm, this enchanting experience lets visitors meet these gentle creatures up close.

Walking among the Christmas trees and reindeer, you can’t help but feel a childlike wonder. The knowledgeable handlers share stories about each reindeer’s personality and their role in spreading festive cheer. The Traditional Boxing Day Hunt in Broadway

Boxing Day in the Cotswolds is steeped in tradition, and nowhere is this more evident than in Broadway. The picturesque village becomes a hub of activity as locals and visitors gather to witness the annual Boxing Day hunt. Riders dressed in traditional hunting attire assemble on horseback, their scarlet jackets a striking contrast to the wintery landscape.
